Airsoft guns are sometimes also known as soft air guns and are usually powered by gas, spring or electric power. These are guns that will shoot small plastic pellets, typically six millimeters or eight millimeters around, though there is some debate as to whether the spring powered weapons are actually air guns at all. Some of these airsoft guns are used for playing airsoft, a sport that is sort of like paintball except that airsoft is usually done in a military action simulation with clear objectives and not a last player standing wins kind of game.
There are several factors you will want to consider when determining the quality of the airsoft gun you might be thinking of purchasing. First and foremost, do not get suckered in by people promising more power. Power is not the only quality you want to look for; precision is just as important. You will want to look at the number of feet per second at which the airsoft gun shoots that number is how fast the pellets will be shot from the gun. If the gun can be practiced indoors or used by younger players, the quality probably isnt quite what you want it to be. You are looking for something that can be used at a close range without giving you problems.
While airsoft guns are not considered a firearm by the federal government, you will want to check and see how your city defines a firearm as some cities include airsoft guns in their list of dangerous weapons. You will also want to make sure that your barrel has an orange tip as the orange tip is what identifies it as an airsoft gun and not a firearm. Make sure that the airsoft trademarks are in legal agreement with the firearm manufacturer that the airsoft gun is modeled after. If there was no agreement to reproduce that particular firearm as an airsoft weapon, the airsoft companys trademarks must be removed.
There are four kinds of protective gear that you should wear when you use airsoft weapons: face masks, chest and neck protectors, shin and knee protectors and barrel plugs. If you are an airsoft sniper you will also want military camouflage to help you blend in with your surroundings. You might also want to think about getting some gloves because using gloves can help you to avoid getting hurt should your hands or fingers get struck.
It is vital that you take good care of your airsoft weapon. You should make sure to keep the guns barrels clean, especially if you are using the airsoft weapon in a sandy environment and you should take care, especially if you own an AEG, to fire a couple of shots in the guns semi-automatic mode to make the gearbox spring decompress after you are done firing. If you are using a gas gun, you should make sure to leave the magazine pressurized so that none of the seals break and if you need to touch up the paint on your airsoft gun; Krylon type paint should be used.

Creating Your Own Airsoft Targets
Firing at tin cans can only keep you occupied for so long. Boredom can set in. Eventually most airsoft owners will upgrade to a proper target system. There are two choices there - the sticky target which your airsoft bbs stick to. The other option is the "catcher" style of target which features a net to gather up your bbs at the end of a target shooting session. But what about some printable targets? It'd be nice to add some variety to your shooting sessions and having a range of targets you can print out would add to your fun no doubt?
So how do you go about creating your own printable airsoft targets? First you're going to need some images to work with. You have lots of choices here. You can look online for free clipart images of bullseye targets, silhouettes of animals or people and other typical images that you might see on shooting ranges. Yet another option is to scan a photograph of somebody you don't like very much - maybe a boss, ex-boss or maybe just an ex of yours full stop. Now take that image and import it into your word-processor or graphics program and strech it to A4/letter size and print it out. You now have a small practice target to take your frustration out on.
Now for some people an A4 sheet of paper isn't big enough to aim at over any kind of distance. If you find you have this problem then simply take your printed target to the local copy or office supply store and have it enlarged to A3 or larger size there. It doesn't cost very much to do this.
So when you do get bored of shooting soda cans and want to try something different then why not try creating your own printable airsoft targets instead. It really isn't that hard and it's a lot cheaper than buying pre-printed targets in any sports store.

What Is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a modern combat sport or recreational hobby in which participants eliminate opponents by hitting each other with spherical non-metallic rounds fired from a compressed-air gun (or airsoft gun) powered by gas, manual spring-load, or electrically powered gearbox.
Airsoft participants organize meetings at dedicated airsoft battlefields often adapted to provide walls, bunkers, trenches, buildings, towers, and other similar man-made field enhancements to offer realism analogous to real war environments.
Airsoft games vary greatly in style and composition depending on location, budget, and quantity of participants but often range from short-term skirmishes, organized scenarios, military simulations, or historical reenactments.
Combat situations on the battlefield often involve the use of common military tactics to achieve the objectives set in each game. Participants typically use varying types of non-lethal weaponry designed as replicas of real firearms, tactical gear, and accessories used by modern military and police organizations.
The whole world has heard about bb guns but not as many people know about airsoft guns. People often just see these guns as "toys" and not a real replica gun at all. The thing is that air soft guns, pistols and rifles offer a huge amount of fun and even relaxation for anyone who gets involved with it as a hobby.
The liberals of the world think that anyone who has any desire to own a gun of any kinda is a borderline homicidal maniac - this is just pure crap. There is nothing wrong with admiring the craftsmanship in a gun and wanting to own one. It doesn't mean that you're going to use it to hurt anyone. The cool thing with airsoft is that you can own a totally harmless well crafted replica of a modern (or older) military firearm that you can show off your friends but is not capable of harming any living being.
A standard bb gun fires a lead pellet which can cause harm to humans or animals when used with precision and practice. Airsoft guns fire a small 6mm (or the new 8mm) plastic pellet which are available in 0.12g, 0.20g and 0.25g variants. Even at high velocities and close range these pellets are incapable of causing more than bruising - unless they're fired directly at a persons eye. Not every gun fan wants to cause harm to people or even animals and airsoft guns are ideal for you gun fans out there.
The whole airsoft hobby is pretty new but has become massively popular in a very short space of time. Airsoft guns can be used for plinking tin cans in your living room or back garden. The more powerful electronic airsoft guns can be taken and used in airsoft wargames (these are becoming really popular all over the world). Or you can you just can just hang the airsoft replica over your fireplace and let it become a conversation piece for your buddies.
Another big bonus for airsoft fans is the huge variety of guns available - you have gas, spring and electric in rifles, pistols, assault rifles and even grendade launchers. You can get an airsoft version of everything from a standard glock to the more modern Steyr or G36 assault rifles - and for a lot less money than you could ever have imagined. Heck you can even get an airsoft minigun!
It doesn't stop there for airsoft fans - you have all the accessories to choose from them. From protective face masks and body armor to harnesses and even pop-up airsoft targets for keeping your skills sharp. You can even go as far as adding a Tasco tactical lamp or even a laser sight.
Airsoft is here to stay - why not get involved today?

The Right Airsoft Gun for You (Choosing Your Airsoft Gun)
Depending on which game you are going to be playing you will need the right gun for the game. Some games require you to play with only a pistol others require you to play with a rifle. Knowing what airsoft gun to play with will give you the best advantage at winning the game of choice. It can also make a difference on where you play and what kind of player you are.
Playing games with a long-range distance, you will want something to meet the need of a long-range shot. Something like the AEG series is going to give you the best accuracy along with the speed needed for the long range. These are the most powerful of airsoft guns available. The Black Eagle M6 has a range of around 115 feet. It is accurate and a very powerful gun. A airsoft gun like this would be good for the loner range battles. The AEG series have so many possibilities that many purchase these guns as their primary weapon.
The Airsoft Sniper series is a gun that beginners find very interesting because the price is not that much more than a regular rifle, but many need a lot of adjustments or accessories before they can become useful in the game. The Sniper rifle is also not used very often and is not normally a primary weapon.
If you are a beginner many suggest using something that is low powered to start your experience with. The more you play and the more experience then the higher powered you will want to go with. The lower power guns also are the more affordable guns to choose from.
Spring Airsoft pistols, known as springers, are good sidearms to use but they are not commonly used in combat. Gas powered gives more coverage because it can be semi or fully automatic but it is not ideal for distance. The spring airsoft shotguns have more power than the pistol and make a great usable primary gun though this gun is not recommended for beginners. This shotgun can also make an excellent secondary gun if you have a sling to put over your shoulder.
In the end when choosing your airsoft gun you should go with how much experience you have with the game. The less experience the less power you are going to want to start with. If you are an experienced player the AEG series of rifles is going to give you the power along with the distance needed for most of the games that are commonly played.
And how do you choose airsoft for you?
Airsoft guns have many uses and people use them differently. To buy the right gun you first have to know what you will be using it for. Here are some common uses.
- Plinking (just shooting at cans and targets)
- Airsoft Wars (backyard shootouts with friends... and enemies)
- Joining a team (Joining an Airsoft team to compete against other teams)
Plinking
If you're going to use it for plinking, you should get a spring pistol. They are very cheap and don't need any maintenance. If you want to get a pistol, just go into your Google searchbar right now and search airsoft spring pistol. Find an airsoft pistol that looks cool to you and buy it. With a simple pistol for plinking, you don't need to worry about price or speed.
Backyard Wars
If you are going to be using your airsoft gun for backyard wars, you should buy either an automatic electric gun(aeg) or a spring shotgun. Shotguns are great because for about forty dollars you can buy a powerful gun that can pump out bbs at an incredible rate.
Joining A Team
If you're going to use it for Joining a team of airsoft, find an airsoft team at your town, analyze the power of each team, and find the team that suites your ability.
GOOD LUCK FOR AIRSOFTING

The History of "Airsoft Gun"
The history of "Airsoft Gun" originated in Japan during the mid-1970s, mainly because it was illegal to own firearms by private individuals. The first airsoft guns available were spring-powered replicas of firearms that fired 6mm, plastic pellets or BBs. The gun then spread to China, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines and became very popular chiefly because of firearm restrictions in these countries.
The first airsoft guns were those air driven pellet guns, cap-type guns and spring driven pellet guns. The early Japanese air driven pellet guns were based on semi-automatic pistols. They were spring powered. The plastic pellet was propelled by air when the spring piston was released. In the cap-type guns, powerful an explosive cap was used to make the sound of gunfire and to eject the spent cartridge. In spring driven pellet guns, a spring was used to propel the pellet held between two small locks and released when the gun was fired.
Mattel, the famous American toy company had already marketed a product called "Shootin Shells" way back in the 1950s. These guns were identical to the spring driven pellet guns and had Stik-M-Caps that explode to emulate the sound of gunfire. In the 1980s, Daisy BB Gun Company manufactured spring gun models called Replisoft and Soft Air shot at each other by opposing players.
The popularity of airsoft guns in the United States and Europe began in the mid-1990s. There is continued growing interest in the west. Daisy BB Gun Company started manufacturing and marketing airsoft guns once again in the United States. "Powerstrike" is the brand name used by the company. Other manufacturers are following in Daisy's footsteps and a host of different models have entered the United States airsoft gun market.
